15. Once no parameters conflicts are reported, you can set the parameters on the
adapter card, as described in 6.8.4, “Setting Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA Adapter
Parameters at Firmware Level,” to reflect the selected parameters' correct
values.
16. Shut down and power-off the system.
17. Physically install the adapter on an ISA slot.
18. Power-on and reboot the system.
19. Configure the adapter by using the fastpath:
smit isa
Configure a Defined ISA Adapter
20. Verify the results with the following command:
lsdev -Cc adapter -s isa
If the configuration was successful, the adapter will be available, and the
system will display information similar to the following:
tok1 Available 1- 6 IBM 16/4 PowerPC Token-Ring Adapter (isa)
21. Once the adapter status is
Available
, you may proceed to configure the
network interfaces by using the
smit inet
fastpath.
6.8.4 Setting Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA Adapter Parameters at
Firmware Level
As already stated in 6.8, “Ethernet and Token-Ring ISA Adapters” on page 125, the
Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA Adapter is not officially supported on the PCI-based
RS/6000 servers therefore its hardware parameters cannot be changed with the
firmware installed in those machines. The only way to set the parameters is to
install the adapter on a 40P (firmware level 1.28 or newer), a 43P (firmware level
1.06 or newer), or on a PC, by using the software provided with the adapter.
The following procedures apply to the 40P and the 43P. They explain how to set
the Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA Adapter hardware parameter values before
physically installing it in the PCI-based RS/6000 server.
The System Management Services utilities include the support needed to configure
the adapter at firmware level. The configuration of the adapter is similar to the
configuration of the ISA Ethernet adapter explained in 6.8.2, “Setting ISA Ethernet
Adapter Parameters at Firmware Level” on page 129. Follow steps 1 through 9,
then select Search for Other Adapters. The system will load the configuration
software from the System Management Services diskette.
Two paths are available for the configuration of the Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA
Adapter. The path Run all configuration files will display a series of menus that
show all possible values for each configuration option.
