13. Once no parameters conflicts are reported, you can set the parameters on the
adapter card as described in 6.8.2, “Setting ISA Ethernet Adapter Parameters
at Firmware Level,” to reflect the selected parameters' correct values.
14. Shut down and power-off the system.
15. Physically install the adapter on an ISA slot.
16. Power-on and reboot the system.
17. Configure the adapter using the fastpath:
smit isa
Configure a Defined ISA Adapter
18. Verify the results with the following command:
lsdev -Cc adapter -s isa
If the configuration was successful, the adapter will be available, and the
system will display information similar to the following:
ent1 Available 1- 5 IBM ISA Ethernet Adapter
19. Once the adapter status is
Available
, you may proceed to configure the
network interfaces by using the
smit inet
fastpath.
6.8.2 Setting ISA Ethernet Adapter Parameters at Firmware Level
As already stated in 6.8, “Ethernet and Token-Ring ISA Adapters” on page 125, the
ISA Ethernet Adapter is not officially supported on the PCI-based RS/6000 servers
therefore its hardware parameters cannot be changed with the firmware installed in
those machines. The only way to set the parameters is to install the adapter on a
40P (firmware level 1.28 or newer), on a 43P (firmware level 1.06 or newer), or on
a PC, by using the software provided with the adapter.
The following procedures apply to the 40P and the 43P. They explain how to set
the ISA Ethernet Adapter hardware parameter values before physically installing it
in the PCI-based RS/6000 server.
1. If there are any ISA adapters that are already installed in your computer, record
their settings for later reference.
2. If your computer is up and running, shut the operating system down, and turn
the power off.
3. Remove all existing ISA adapters from the machine.
4. Install the first new ISA Ethernet adapter, and insert the System Management
Services diskette in the diskette drive.
5. Power-on your computer.
6. Access the services by pressing the F4 key as soon as the first screen
appears. For additional information on the System Management Services, refer
to the
System User's Guide that is shipped with your system.
7. Use the Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys to select Utilities, and press Enter.
8. Select Remote Initial Program Load Setup, and press Enter.
