With the aid of special hardware and software, the magi-
color 2210 calculates and records supplies usage. This data
is automatically stored for future retrieval and analysis.

Supplies usage data is useful when performing resource
allocation and cross-departmental billing. For example, by
periodically analyzing the number of sheets printed,
administrators can determine if just one magicolor 2210 is
enough to serve a particular area.

Or, as another example, supplies usage data can be used
to fairly distribute printing costs. Through the magicolor
2210’s methods of supplies usage tracking, interdepart-
mental invoicing is an easy task.

The magicolor 2210 records and stores supplies usage data
for three defined periods of time:

•Total usage for life of printer:

this data is stored in

non-volatile RAM and includes a cumulative history of
usage since the printer’s manufacture date.

•Total usage for a user-defined period:

administrators

can record usage data for a specific period of time by
selecting reset at the beginning of the selected period
through the printer’s front panel. This data is also
stored in non-volatile RAM.

•Total usage for each job printed:

This data is stored in

an accounting file on the magicolor 2210’s hard disk
(optional feature) and details supplies usage, such as
average coverage per page and number of color pages,
on a per-job basis. In addition to consumables tracking,
the accounting file records over 30 different categories
of data, such as the originator of the job, file name, con-
nection type, compilation time, and print time. (See
“Job Accounting” on page 51 for more information).
