10 Router maintenance
Nortel Secure Router 8000 Series
Configuration Guide - Basic Configuration
10.3 Managing the device operation
10.3.1 Establishing the configuration task
Applicable environment
The following operations are common for daily router maintenance:
1.
Specifying the slave RPU
CQ NOTE
Secure Routers 8002, 8004, and 8008 contain only one RPU, so they do not support this function.
When Secure Router 8012 restarts, the master and slave RPUs are not fixed. The two
RPUs compete for the status of master RPU. When the master and slave RPUs operate
normally, you need to run a command to specify the slot number of the slave RPU if you
want the slot number of the master RPU to be fixed.
2.
Restarting the router
After an upgrade, you may need to restart the router. The three types of restarts are as
follows:
- Restarting the specified board
This operation stops only the services on the specified board and has no effect on
other boards.
- Restarting the router immediately
After this operation, the router restarts immediately and stops all services on the
router.
- Restarting the router at a specified time
If the router restarts at a busy time, services are affected. Through this operation, you
can specify to restart the router at a time with few services. This reduces the impact
on services.
3.
Performing master/slave switchover
CQ NOTE
Secure Routers 8002, 8004, and 8008 contain only one RPU, so they do not support this function.
A master/slave switchover of the router occurs in the following two situations:
- The master RPU fails and the system automatically perform the master/slave
switchover.
- The master/slave switchover is performed forcibly through the command line
interface (CLI).
Preconfiguration tasks
Before you manage the device operation, complete the following tasks:
•
Complete the router installation and power it on.
•
Ensure that you can log on to the router.
