Section 2: Quick Start Tutorial

2.2 THE THKEE OPERATING MODES OF THE FX770

The operation of your FX770 is divided into three basic MODES. Each MODE is dedicated for a specific set of functions;
and at one point or another, you will need to know how to enter each MODE and which features and functions you will find
in each. The following descriptions of the Modes offer an outline overview of their functions, for specific page by page
details of each Mode, please refer to the individual Mode Sections of this manual.

• The Play Mode

The PLAY Mode is the main performance mode of the FX770. You may select and recall all Preset and User Effect
Programs here as well as control any programmed foot controllers or footswitches. Individual Effect On/Off is also
available via the [EFFECT SELECT] buttons. The PLAY Mode is entered by pressing the [PLAY] function key
and is verified with it’s own LED located above the [PLAY] key.

Also available in this mode are the Bypass and built-in Tuner functions. These features are selected by pressing the

[BYPASS] function key. The built-in Tuner is automatically engaged when the [BYPASS] function key is pressed

while in the PLAY mode.

• The Edit Mode

The EDIT Mode offers complete access and control over all of the parameters that are contained in an Effect Program.
Features including: Patch Select, Noise Gate, Title Edit, Volume Position, FSl Assignment, Controller 1&2
Assignments, and Effect Copy can also be changed in this Mode. The EDIT Mode is entered by pressing the [EDIT]
function key and is verified with it’s own LED located above the [EDIT] key.

The EDIT Mode allows access to each individual Effect Block for selecting and editing effect parameter values.
Effects can also be turned on or off in this Mode by using the [BYPASS] function key.

After you’ve finished any or all editing, the resulting new or edited Effect Program may be saved by pressing the
[STORE] function key. If you choose not to save these edits, you may exit the EDIT Mode by pressing the [PLAY]
function key. After completion of the Store sequence, the FX770 automatically returns to the PLAY Mode.

• The Utility Mode

This final Mode contains the comprehensive MIDI Controls and Assignable functions of the FX770. Here you can
set up the customized control over your FX770 to suit your needs and the functions of the various rear panel control
and MIDI connections. Complete Data Dumps (via MIDI downloading) are also available for saving or archiving
your work to an external storage source. The UTILITY Mode is entered by pressing the [UTILITY] function key
and is verified with its own LED located above the [UTILITY] key.
