Settings for Metadata Fields
Each metadata field has a variety of settings. The actual settings a field has are affected
by the Data Type setting. The settings are listed below as the common settings (those
that are available in all metadata fields) and specialized settings (those that are available
only for certain data types).
Common Settings
The following settings apply to all metadata fields:
• Name: Enter the name of the metadata field.
• Data Type: Choose the type of field from the pop-up menu. The list of settings you can
configure for a metadata field varies based on the data type you choose. See
Data Types for Metadata Fields
for more information about the data types.
Note: You can only set the data type when you are creating a new metadata field.
Additionally, if you intend to use a lookup (pop-up menu) with the field, you must use
the same data type in both the lookup and the metadata field.
• Description: Enter a more detailed description of the metadata field.
• Category: Choose the category of the field from the pop-up menu. Choices include:
• None
• Name
• Date
• Number
• Filename
