2 Configuring Insight Control for vCenter

Insight Control for vCenter is managed as a plug-in in the vCenter Server environment. Several
settings can impact the interaction between Insight Control for vCenter and vCenter Server. These
settings, which you manage on the Home Settings page in the vSphere Client, allow you to do the
following:

Select a background color theme

Manage credentials

Generate a self-signed certificate or certificate signing request

Upload new certificates

To access the Home Settings page:
1.

Navigate to the vSphere Client home page.

2.

Under Administration, click the HP Insight Management Administration icon.

The GUI Theme Selection page appears by default.

The home page allows you to access the following administration pages through a drop-down list.

GUI Theme Selection

The GUI Theme Selection page allows you to select your preferred view of the GUI, either
dark text on a light background or light text on a dark background.

vCenter Credential Management

The vCenter Credential Management page lists all user names currently in the password
database. You can delete existing passwords or enter new passwords in the database.

Certificate Upload

The Certificate Upload page enables you to upload the signed certificate request returned to
you by the Certificate Authority.

Generate Self-signed Certificate

The Generate Self-signed Certificate page enables you to generate a new self-signed certificate
for Insight Control for vCenter or generate a certificate signing request to be signed by a
Certificate Authority.

Server Password Management

If you have a server module installed, a Server Credential Management page allows you to
view and change current server passwords.

Use this page to enter credentials for iLO, Onboard Administrator, Virtual Connect, VMware
host, SNMP community string, and HP SIM.

Server Module Configuration

The Server Module Configuration page provides event and polling configuration information.

Other options are available if you have the optional server or storage modules installed.

IMPORTANT:

Proxy-enabled Windows clients can fail to communicate with an ESX host using

iLO 3. If this occurs, you must disable or bypass the Windows Proxy Server for the connection
between the Insight Control for vCenter/vSphere client and iLO 3 on the ProLiant server running
as an ESX/ESXi host system. For instructions, see

“Error Communicating with iLO at VM host”

(page 83)
