Telnet (Port 23)

Telnet, short for Telecommunications Network, provides a way for you to connect to a
computer or server (in this case, the IPL T SFI244) on a network. Once connected via
Telnet, you can send ASCII serial commands (see

Programmer’s Guide for the Telnet

and Web Browser

) to control devices connected to the interface through both serial

ports. Telnet only works in RS-232 mode.

Accessing and using Telnet

1.

Click Start, then Run and type “Telnet”. Click OK. The Telnet program starts (see
figure 53).

At the command prompt, type “open” and press Enter.

At the < to > prompt, type the IP address of the IPL T SFI244. (The default IP address
is 192.168.254.254, but it may have been changed in the setup or configuration
process. If it was changed, use the new address.) Telnet defaults to port 23.

If passwords were set up for the connected system, you will be prompted to log in as
Administrator or User. Otherwise, the system responds with a .

Once you are connected, you can enter serial (ASCII) commands as desired.

6.

When you are through entering commands to the interface, type “quit” at the
command prompt to quit Telnet.
