Test Procedure for DSAI Ignition Systems

The following procedures are provided for

engines. They will allow you to isolate and pinpoint

Special Tools Required:

Hand Tachometer

and all external loads are disconnected.

Test 1. Isolate and Verify the Trouble is Within the
Engine Ignition System
ȱ ŗǯȱ ˜ŒŠŽȱ‘ŽȱŒ˜——ŽŒ˜›œȱ ‘Ž›Žȱ‘Žȱ ’›’—ȱ‘Š›—ŽœœŽœȱ

›˜–ȱ‘ŽȱŽ—’—ŽȱŠ—ȱŽšž’™–Ž—ȱŠ›Žȱ“˜’—Žǯȱ
Separate the connectors and remove the white
”’••ȱ•ŽŠȱ›˜–ȱ‘ŽȱŽ—’—ŽȱŒ˜——ŽŒ˜›ǯȱŽ“˜’—ȱ‘Žȱ
connectors and position or insulate the kill lead
terminal so it cannot touch ground. Try to start
‘ŽȱŽ—’—Žȱ˜ȱŸŽ›’¢ȱ ‘Ž‘Ž›ȱ‘Žȱ›Ž™˜›Žȱ™›˜‹•Ž–ȱ
is still present.

DZȱ ȱ‘ŽȱŽ—’—ŽȱœŠ›œȱ˜›ȱ›ž—œȱž›’—ȱŠ—¢ȱ˜ȱ‘Žȱ

testing, you may need to ground the kill lead
to shut it down. Because you have interrupted
the kill circuit, it may not stop using the
switch.

ȱ Šǯȱ ȱ‘Žȱ™›˜‹•Ž–ȱ˜ŽœȱŠ Š¢ǰȱ‘ŽȱŽ•ŽŒ›’ŒŠ•ȱœ¢œŽ–ȱ˜—ȱ

‘ŽȱŽšž’™–Ž—ȱ’œȱœžœ™ŽŒǯȱ‘ŽŒ”ȱ‘Žȱ”Ž¢ȱœ ’Œ‘ǰȱ
wires, connections, safety interlocks, etc.

ȱ ‹ǯȱ ȱ‘Žȱ™›˜‹•Ž–ȱ™Ž›œ’œœǰȱ‘ŽȱŒ˜—’’˜—ȱ’œȱŠœœ˜Œ’ŠŽȱ

with the ignition or electrical system of the
Ž—’—ŽǯȱŽŠŸŽȱ‘Žȱ”’••ȱ•ŽŠȱ’œ˜•ŠŽȱž—’•ȱŠ••ȱŽœ’—ȱ
is completed.

c. Identify the white kill lead of the engine wiring

‘Š›—ŽœœȱŒ˜——ŽŒ˜›ǯȱœŠ‹•’œ‘ȱŠȱŒ˜——ŽŒ’˜—ȱ˜ȱŠȱ
known good ground location. The engine should
kill completely. If not, or only one cylinder is
ŠěŽŒŽǰȱ˜ȱ˜ȱŽœȱŚǰȱ‹žȱŠ•œ˜ȱŒ‘ŽŒ”ȱ‘Žȱ ‘’Žȱ”’••ȱȱ
•ŽŠȱŒ˜——ŽŒ’˜—ȱ˜›ȱ‘ŽȱŠěŽŒŽȱȱ–˜ž•Žǯȱ

Test 2. Test for Spark
ȱ ŗǯȱ ’‘ȱ‘ŽȱŽ—’—Žȱœ˜™™Žǰȱ’œŒ˜——ŽŒȱ˜—Žȱœ™Š›”ȱ

™•žȱ•ŽŠǯȱ˜——ŽŒȱ‘Žȱœ™Š›”ȱ™•žȱ•ŽŠȱ˜ȱ™˜œȱ
Ž›–’—Š•ȱ˜ȱœ™Š›”ȱŽœŽ›ȱǻ ˜‘•Ž›ȱŠ›ȱ˜ǯȱ
