Fuel Shut-Off
Solenoid

High Altitude Operation

ǻśŖŖŖȱĞǯǼȱŠ—ȱŠ‹˜ŸŽǰȱ‘ŽȱžŽ•ȱ–’¡ž›ŽȱŽ—œȱ˜ȱŽȱ
over-rich. This can cause conditions such as black,
œ˜˜¢ȱŽ¡‘Šžœȱœ–˜”Žǰȱ–’œę›’—ǰȱ•˜œœȱ˜ȱœ™ŽŽȱŠ—ȱ
power, poor fuel economy, and poor or slow governor
response.

˜ȱŒ˜–™Ž—œŠŽȱ˜›ȱ‘ŽȱŽěŽŒœȱ˜ȱ‘’‘ȱŠ•’žŽǰȱœ™ŽŒ’Š•ȱ
high altitude jet kits are available. The kits include
new main jets, slow jets (where applicable), necessary
Šœ”ŽœȱŠ—ȱȬ’—œǯȱŽŽ›ȱ˜ȱ‘Žȱ™Š›œȱ–Š—žŠ•ȱ˜›ȱ‘Žȱ
correct kit number.

can determine if the solenoid is functioning properly:

ȱ ŗǯȱ ‘žȱ˜ěȱžŽ•ȱŠ—ȱ›Ž–˜ŸŽȱ‘Žȱœ˜•Ž—˜’ȱ›˜–ȱ‘Žȱ

carburetor. When the solenoid is loosened and
removed, gas will leak out of the carburetor.
Have a container ready to catch the fuel.

remaining fuel. Take the solenoid to a location
with good ventilation and no fuel vapors present.

ȱ řǯȱ Žȱœž›Žȱ‘Žȱ™˜ Ž›ȱœ˜ž›ŒŽȱ’œȱœ ’Œ‘Žȱȃ˜ěȄǯȱ

Connect the positive power source lead to the red
lead of the solenoid. Connect the negative power
source lead to the solenoid body.

ȱ Śǯȱ ž›—ȱ‘Žȱ™˜ Ž›ȱœ˜ž›ŒŽȱȃ˜—ȄȱŠ—ȱ˜‹œŽ›ŸŽȱ‘Žȱ

pin in the center of the solenoid. The pin should
›Ž›ŠŒȱ ’‘ȱ‘Žȱ™˜ Ž›ȱȃ˜—ȄȱŠ—ȱ›Žž›—ȱ˜ȱ’œȱ
˜›’’—Š•ȱ™˜œ’’˜—ȱ ’‘ȱ‘Žȱ™˜ Ž›ȱ˜ěǯȱŽœȱœŽŸŽ›Š•ȱ
times to verify operation.

Carburetor Details

‘Žȱ Ž’‘’—ȱ ȱ ˜Ȭ‹Š››Ž•ȱŒŠ›‹ž›Ž˜›ȱ’œȱŠȱœ’ŽȬ›ŠĞȱ
design. The circuits within the carburetor function as
described following:

Float Circuit:
‘ŽȱžŽ•ȱ•ŽŸŽ•ȱ’—ȱ‘Žȱ‹˜ •ȱ’œȱ–Š’—Š’—Žȱ‹¢ȱ‘Žȱ̘Šȱ
Š—ȱžŽ•ȱ’—•Žȱ—ŽŽ•Žǯȱ‘Žȱ‹ž˜¢Š—ȱ˜›ŒŽȱ˜ȱ‘Žȱ̘Šȱ
œ˜™œȱžŽ•ȱ̘ ȱ ‘Ž—ȱ‘ŽȱŽ—’—Žȱ’œȱŠȱ›Žœǯȱ‘Ž—ȱ

pressure will push the inlet needle away from the
seat, allowing more fuel to enter the bowl. When
Ž–Š—ȱŒŽŠœŽœǰȱ‘Žȱ‹ž˜¢Š—ȱ˜›ŒŽȱ˜ȱ‘Žȱ̘Šȱ ’••ȱ
again overcome the fuel pressure, rising to the
™›ŽŽŽ›–’—ŽȱœŽĴ’—ȱŠ—ȱœ˜™ȱ‘Žȱ̘ ǯ

Slow & Mid-Range Circuit:
ȱ•˜ ȱœ™ŽŽœȱ‘ŽȱŽ—’—Žȱ˜™Ž›ŠŽœȱ˜—•¢ȱ˜—ȱ‘Žȱœ•˜ ȱ
Œ’›Œž’ǯȱœȱŠȱ–ŽŽ›ŽȱŠ–˜ž—ȱ˜ȱŠ’›ȱ’œȱ›Š —ȱ‘›˜ž‘ȱ
the slow air bleed jets, fuel is drawn through the two
main jets and further metered through the slow jets.
’›ȱŠ—ȱžŽ•ȱŠ›Žȱ–’¡Žȱ’—ȱ‘Žȱ‹˜¢ȱ˜ȱ‘Žȱœ•˜ ȱ“ŽȱŠ—ȱ
exit to the transfer port. From the transfer port the
air fuel mixture is delivered to the idle progression
chamber. From the idle progression chamber the
air fuel mixture is metered through the idle port
™ŠœœŠŽœǯȱȱ•˜ ȱ’•Žȱ ‘Ž—ȱ‘ŽȱŸŠŒžž–ȱœ’—Š•ȱ’œȱ
 ŽŠ”ǰȱ‘ŽȱŠ’›ȦžŽ•ȱ–’¡ž›Žȱ’œȱŒ˜—›˜••Žȱ‹¢ȱ‘ŽȱœŽĴ’—ȱ
of the idle fuel adjusting screws. This mixture is then
mixed with the main body of air and delivered to
‘ŽȱŽ—’—Žǯȱœȱ‘Žȱ‘›˜Ĵ•Žȱ™•ŠŽȱ˜™Ž—’—ȱ’—Œ›ŽŠœŽœǰȱ
›ŽŠŽ›ȱŠ–˜ž—œȱ˜ȱŠ’›ȦžŽ•ȱ–’¡ž›ŽȱŠ›Žȱ›Š —ȱ’—ȱ
‘›˜ž‘ȱ‘Žȱę¡ŽȱŠ—ȱ–ŽŽ›Žȱ’•Žȱ™›˜›Žœœ’˜—ȱ‘˜•Žœǯȱ

becomes great enough so the main circuit begins to
work.

Main (High-Speed) Circuit:
ȱ‘’‘ȱœ™ŽŽœȦ•˜Šœȱ‘ŽȱŽ—’—Žȱ˜™Ž›ŠŽœȱ˜—ȱ‘Žȱ–Š’—ȱ
Œ’›Œž’ǯȱœȱŠȱ–ŽŽ›ŽȱŠ–˜ž—ȱ˜ȱŠ’›ȱ’œȱ›Š —ȱ‘›˜ž‘ȱ
the four air jets, fuel is drawn through the main jets.
The air and fuel are mixed in the main nozzles and
‘Ž—ȱŽ—Ž›ȱ‘Žȱ–Š’—ȱ‹˜¢ȱ˜ȱŠ’›Ě˜ ǰȱ ‘Ž›Žȱž›‘Ž›ȱ
mixing of the fuel and air occurs. This mixture is then
delivered to the combustion chamber. The carburetor
‘ŠœȱŠȱę¡Žȱ–Š’—ȱŒ’›Œž’Dzȱ—˜ȱŠ“žœ–Ž—ȱ’œȱ™˜œœ’‹•Žǯ
