To replace a fan in the fan module:
1
Follow the instructions in
“Preventing static electricity discharge” on page 41
. Make
sure that you turn off the server, then unplug the power cord(s) and all other cables
connected to the server.

Follow the instructions in
“Opening the server case” on page 42
.

Follow the instructions in
“Removing the processor air duct” on page 45

Trace the cable from the failed fan to the connector on the fan distribution board,
then disconnect the cable.

Lift the fan from the fan module in the chassis.
6
Insert the replacement fan into the fan module.
7
Connect the fan cable to the connector on the fan distribution board.
Important
Make sure that the arrows on top of the fans indicating airflow point
to the back of the chassis. The fan cable should exit the fan mudule
toward the back of the chassis.
