DDE Client
The originator of a DDE conversation. A DDE client
application sends requests for information to a DDE server.
DDE Conversation
An exchange of information between two applications using
DDE.
DDE Execute
A request from a DDE client to a DDE server to perform a
command.
DDE Initiate
A request to start a new DDE conversation.
DDE Poke
A request from a DDE client to a DDE server to change the
value of a specific piece of data.
DDE Request
A one-time request by a DDE client for a specific piece of
data from a DDE server.
DDE Server
An application that responds to the requests of DDE client
applications.
DDE Terminate
A request to end a DDE conversation.
DDE Transaction
A DDE client’s request and the resulting response.
Foreign Frame
Message

message used to exchange low-level
information between application devices, where that
information contains encapsulated information from a non-

network or device. A message code within the
message identifies the type of information contained
within the remainder of the message. Interpretation of
foreign frame message codes is application-dependent, and
is not interoperable.
LNS Network
Interface
The hardware and its associated software network driver
that connect a computer (such as the computer running the
LNS DDE Server) to a L

W
ORKS
network. An LNS
network interface also manages communication with an
LNS Server. Examples are the PCC-10, PCLTA-10,
PCLTA-20, SLTA-10, and PCNSI. Also called a Network
Services Interface (NSI).
LNS Network
Operating System
The LNS network operating system consists of hardware
and software that provides a broad range of services
required by network tools and other network applications.
These services include network management (installation,
configuration, maintenance and repair), and system-wide
monitoring and control.
