Application Device
The individual sensor, actuator, and controller devices that
make up a network. Application devices contain an
application program developed by the device manufacturer
or system integrator. Typically, device manufacturers
develop application programs using a LonBuilder
Developer's Kit or NodeBuilder Development Tool.
Some application devices use a L

network
interface, and execute their application programs on a host
processor. In this case, a Neuron Chip in the network
interface may be used as a communications co-processor
for the host processor. These are called host-based devices.
Application
Message
A type of LonWorks message used to exchange low-level
information between application devices. A message code
within the message identifies the type of information
contained within the remainder of the message.
Interpretation of application message codes is application-
dependent, and is generally not interoperable.
Configuration
Parameter
Configuration properties implemented as memory blocks
in an application device. The configuration parameter
memory block may be read or written over the network
using the LonTalk file transfer protocol or using direct
memory read and write configuration network
management messages.
Configuration
Property
Configuration properties are high-level objects used to hold
application configuration data. Configuration properties
may be implemented as network variables or configuration
parameters.
DDE
Dynamic Data Exchange. A standard protocol that
Windows applications can use to exchange information with
one another.
DDE Advise
A request by a DDE client for ongoing updates for a specific
piece of data from a DDE server. There are two types of
Advise requests.
Hot or
Automatic
Whenever the value of the item changes, the
server automatically sends the client the
new value.
Warm or
Notify
Whenever the value of the item changes, the
server sends the client notification that the
value has changed. If interested, the client
requests the new value from the server.
The LNS DDE Server does not support
warm (notify) links.
