8.1. Local Management Processor, P2041

The Local Management Processor or LMP, P2041, is responsible for all the device

management including configuration and monitoring with device drivers for the devices
to control. The LMP is equipped with major interfaces, PCIe, local bus and Ethernet to
achieve these goals. Most of the interactions between the CN6880s and the CPU are
executed through the PCIe interface. The status report or other miscellaneous traffic
may be exchanged through the Ethernet ports, which is up to a software architecture
choice. Another major device to be controlled by the CPU is the switch fabric device.
The BCM56842 switch has a PCIe x2 interface.
The LMP has four CPU cores running at up to 1.2GHz with 64-bit DDR2/3 support. For
SerDes interfaces on the board, it provides three PCIe interfaces and two SATA
interfaces. Shown in

Figure 8-2

is the internal architecture of P2041.
