X To create a table field
The example image has a table field comprising a set of line items and a
subtotal/tax/total area. Recognition processes the two separate areas using two
separate Table Formats and decides which one to use on the basis of recognizing a
“Table Format Heading”.
The processing steps Recognition uses for tables can be summarized as follows:
ƒ Noise is removed from the entire table area and characters therein are
detected using the “Minimum/Expected/Maximum Character Sizes”
specified for the whole table.
ƒ All characters in the table are recognized using the “Weights” and “Allowed
Characters” specified for the whole table.
ƒ The recognized characters are matched to the Table Format Headings for each
Table Format to deduce which sections of the table belong to which Table
Format.
ƒ Each section is then recognized using “Weights” and “Allowed Characters”
specific to its Table Format.
Table fields are setup by first defining a multi-line field that covers the entire table
area and then defining a number of different Table Formats within the table, each
with their own set of columns definitions.

Select the Formid 1 tab and click on the Multi-line field button on the toolbar.
2 Create the following field to define the entire table area, with the properties
shown in Table 5-12.
