Some Important Terminology
This section details specific terminology used by INDICIUS.
Fields
An item of data that is to be captured is called a field. Fields can be of the following
types: single line text, multi-line text, mark sense, mark grid, table or barcode. For
each field, the definition file generated by Definer specifies:
The coordinates (relative to a registration point) of the fields.
The type of the field (text, mark sense, mark grid, barcode or table).
The size of the characters in that field (text, mark sense and mark grid fields
only).
Image cleanup and background removal techniques for the field.
How the data is to be corrected.
Registration Points
Registration points are features on a document image that are used by Recognition
to:
Identify the document type (in batches of mixed types).
Correct for document misalignment in the image, for example shift, skew and
stretch.
Recognition can use many types of feature as a registration point including corner
marks, blobs (for example logos), lines and text. The number of points defined
dictates which combination of shift, skew and stretch can be corrected:

The position of all data fields is defined relative to the registration points. Therefore,
the successful location of the registration points is the key to successful data capture.
