The battery is draining too fast.

Turn down the screen brightness, turn off virtual memory,
move the battery conservation slider in the PowerBook
control panel to Better Conservation, or work with the power
adapter plugged in.
n
Your computer supplies power to the modem whenever a
communications program is open. Quit your communications
program if you aren’t using it.
n
If you aren’t using network services, you can also save power
by turning off AppleTalk in the Chooser.
n
Your battery may need to be discharged and recharged
completely. See Chapter 6.
n
Older PowerBook batteries do not hold a charge as well as
new ones. You may need to replace the battery.
The battery can’t be recharged.
n
There may be a loose connection. Make sure all plugs are
securely attached.
n
If all connections are OK, then the battery is probably
damaged or dead. You’ll need to obtain a replacement battery
from your Apple-authorized dealer.
The computer goes to sleep too often.
n
Open the PowerBook control panel and slide the slider to
Better Performance.
The PowerBook won’t run off the battery and/or the
battery won’t charge.
n
Make sure your PowerBook is running system software
version 7.1 or later. You may have a new battery which
requires the later system software version.
