port instance
The number of the port in the system.
POST
Power-On Self Test. Diagnostics that the router performs at start-up.
R
RISC
Reduced Instruction Set Computer. A computer microprocessor that performs fewer types of
computer instructions, thereby operating at higher speeds.
router log
Log of messages describing events that occur on the intelligent storage router.
RPC
Remote Procedure Call. A protocol used by a program to request a service from a program
located in another computer in a network.
RSA
In cryptography, RSA (which stands for Rivest, Shamir, and Adleman, who first publicly described
it) is an algorithm for public-key cryptography. RSA is the first algorithm suitable for both signing
and encryption. It can be used for encrypting messages and making digital signatures.
RSCN
Registered State Change Notification. A Fibre Channel fabric notification sent to all specified
nodes when any major fabric changes occur. This notification allows nodes to immediately gain
knowledge about the fabric and react accordingly.
S
SACKS
Selective Acknowledgements.
SANsurfer Router
Manager
Also known as Router Manager. A workstation-based router management tool that provides a
GUI to configure and monitor intelligent storage routers.
SCSI
Small Computer System Interface. A high-speed interface used to connect devices, such as hard
drives, CD drives, printers, and scanners to a computer. The SCSI can connect many devices
using a single controller. Each device is accessed by an individual identification number on the
SCSI controller bus.
SFP
Small Form-factor Pluggable. A transceiver device, smaller than a GigaBit Interface Converter,
that plugs into the Fibre Channel port.
SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol. A networking protocol that enables you to monitor the
router using third-party applications
SSH
Secure Shell. A protocol that secures connections to the switch for the command line interface.
T
target
The storage-device endpoint of a SCSI session. Initiators request data from targets (typically media
devices).
TCP
Transmission Control Protocol. A set of rules to send data in packets over the Internet protocol.
Telnet
Software that implements the client part of the protocol. Telnet clients are available for nearly all
computer platforms. Because of security issues with Telnet, its use has declined in favor of SSH
for remote access.
TPB
Target Process Block. A data structure used to move data between various modules (interfaces –
iSCSI, FCoE, FC) of the router to complete an I/O request. TPBs are used for managing the I/O
request and data buffers associated with an I/O and are passed to the various interfaces (FC,
iSCSI, FCoE) of the router to DMA data into or out of the buffers attached to the TPB.
TSIH
Target System Identifying Handle.
U
UTM
Universal Transverse Mercator. A two–dimensional coordinate system for locations on the surface
of the earth.
V
Virtual Port Group
See
VPG
.
VLAN
Virtual Local Area Network. A group of hosts with a common set of requirements that communicate
as if they were attached to the same wire, regardless of their physical location.
