Figure 12 shows an example using an external LU for Business Copy (BC) operations. The mapped
external LU is set as the S-VOL of the BC pair. The local disk array internal XP LDEV is set as the P-VOL of
the BC pair. For detailed information about Business Copy operations, see the HP StorageWorks Business
Copy XP User Guide for the XP10000/XP12000.
To perform this operation, follow these steps:
1. Use External Storage XP to map the LU in the external disk array as an internal XP LDEV of the local
disk array. For more information, see ” Mapping external LUs ” on page 45.
CAUTION: Set the IO Suppression mode to Disable.
2. Choose the emulation type of the mapped LU.
• For the OPEN-V emulation type, the status of the mapped LU is set automatically to Normal, and the
volume is not automatically formatted. To format the mapped LU, use Volume Management. For
more information, see the HP StorageWorks LUN Configuration and Security Manager XP User
Guide for the XP10000/XP12000.
• For non-open systems emulation types (for example, 3390-XX), the status of the mapped LU is set to
Blockade, pending resizing. Use Volume Management to format the volume. Or use Volume
Management to perform the Write to Control Blocks operation to restore the volume, if you mapped
the volume for which the data area has already been zero-formatted on the external disk array. For

3. Set the P-VOL and S-VOL of the Business Copy pair using BC.
NOTE: If the number of FC links to the external LU does not allow for adequate P-VOL high
availability and bandwidth, place the BC XP P-VOL on internal storage.
