• The required fields in a command are enclosed in angle brackets <>, for instance,

ping

means that you must specify an IP number for this command.

• The optional fields in a command are enclosed in square brackets [], for instance,

configure snmp-server [contact ] [location ]

means that the contact and location fields are optional.

• “Command” refers to a command used in the command line interface (CLI command).
• The | symbol means “or”.
• The entry in the command lines refers to carriage return. Press [ENTER] or carriage

return after a command to execute the command.

• Use the up or down arrow key to scroll through the command history list.
• You may enter a unique part of a command and press [TAB] to have the Switch

automatically display the full command. For example, if you enter “

config

” and press

[TAB], the full command of “configure” automatically displays.

• Each interface refers to an Ethernet port on the Switch. Commands configured after the

interface command correspond to those ports.

• Type multiple ports or port ranges separated by a comma. Ranges of port numbers are

typed separated by a dash.

45.5 Changing the Password

This command is used to change the password for Enable mode. By default the same password
is used to enter the command line interface (CLI) and Enable and Config modes of the CLI.
The password you change with this command is required to enter Enable and Config modes of
the CLI.

45.6 Creating a New IP Interface

Use the ip address command to create a new IP interface (one suitable for your network)

for VLAN 1. After you create a new IP interface you can use this IP address for Switch
management. The following example shows you how to create an IP interface for the IP
address 172.23.0.1 with the subnet mask 255.255.255.0:

characters) users have to type in to enter Enable and
Config modes.
