Network Cards Settings
A wireless network can be added either when the network is automatically detected as described
above or manually by entering the necessary setting information on the
Network Cards
.
To manually add a new wireless network :
1. While the
WLAN
is powered on, tap
>
Setting
>
Connections
tab
>
the
Network Cards
icon
>
the
Wireless
tab
>
Add New...
2. On the
General
tab:
- Enter a network name (SSID).
If a network was detected in
Step 1
, the SSID is automatically entered and cannot be changed.
- Select where your network connects to (
The Internet
or
Work
) in the
Connects to:
box.
- Tap the
This is a device-to-computer (ad-hoc) connection
checkbox if you want to connect
to an ad-hoc connection.
3. On the
Network Key
tab:
If authentication information is needed, select the type of network authentication to use :
To determine whether authentication information is needed, check with your network administrator.
- To set authentication, choose the desired type from the
Authentication
drop down list.
- To use data encryption, choose the desired type from the
Data Encryption
drop down list. (By
default,
WEP
is enabled.)
- Enter the network key in the
Network Key:
box. If a network key is provided by your network
automatically, tap the
The Key is provided for me automatically
checkbox.
4. On the
N802.1x
tab:
Tap the Use IEEE 802.1x network access control for increased security. You should only check
this option if it is supported by your network environment. Check with your network administrator
if you are unsure.
To search for a network to access:
Networks that you have already configured are listed in
Wireless Networks.
You can choose
whether to connect only to preferred networks or to have your T-Mobile MDA III search for and
connect to any available network.

2. In the
Networks to access:
box, tap the type of network you want to connect to
All Available

Only
access points

Only computer-to-computer
.
3. To connect only to networks that have already been configured, clear the
Automatically connect to
non-preferred networks
checkbox.
If you check the
Automatically connect to non-preferred networks
checkbox, your T-Mobile MDA
III will detect any new networks and provide you the opportunity to configure them.
