Overview

The MUX Setup configuration options are set using

the Configuration branch. When an MCMP or TDM
circuit card is installed, the following functions are
available:

MCMP mode

TDM mode

Digital Bridge mode

CBrdg

EBrdg

Basic mode (MUX = None)

MCMP Mode

When the MUX function is set to MCMP,

multichannel multipoint circuitry is activated. All six
ports are available for multiplexing, digital-sharing, or a
combination of both.

Using a management channel, the control DSU is in

constant communication with each tributary DSU. The
management channel is included in the MCMP circuitry
and transmits data without disrupting user-transmitted
data. In

Figure C-1

, the DDS multipoint circuit is

transmitting to three tributaries.

The management channel is also used for framing and

an underspeed channel is not required. MCMP can
support up to forty addressable tributary devices
(40 DSUs or 20 DSUs with DBMs). With multichannel
multipoint and digital sharing, up to three digital-sharing
groups can be formed at each tributary site.

NOTE

The figures in this appendix use
Customer Provided Equipment
(CPE) to represent any DTE,
LAN, FEP, DDS backup, MUX,
or mainframe.
