the "etch & rinse" technique. Unprepared enamel surfaces must be conditioned
with phosphoric acid (e.g. Total Etch). Please observe the Instructions for Use for the
phosphoric acid gel.
(a.) Selective-enamel-etch technique

Apply phosphoric acid gel (e.g. Total Etch) onto the enamel and allow it to react
for 15-30 seconds. Then rinse thoroughly with a vigorous stream of water for at
least 5 seconds and dry with compressed air until the etched enamel surfaces
appear chalky white.

(b.) Etch & rinse technique

Apply phosphoric acid gel (e.g. Total Etch) onto the prepared enamel first, and
then the dentin. The etchant should be left to react on the enamel for 15-30 sec-
onds and dentin for 10-15 seconds. Then rinse thoroughly with a vigorous stream
of water for at least 5 seconds and dry with compressed air until the etched
enamel surfaces appear chalky white.

4. Handling VivaPen and bottle
(a.) VivaPen

Remove the VivaPen cap by turning it until noticeable resistance is felt and si-
multaneously pulling it off.

Attach the VivaPen brush cannula. The cannula can be rotated up to
approximately 270° to the desired position.

Attention: Rotating the cannula past the point of
resistance will detach the cannula!

For hygienic reasons, always use a VivaPen protective sleeve by sliding the Pen
with the cannula into the protective sleeve until the cannula punctures through
the sleeve.

A new cannula and protective sleeve must be used for each patient.

Activate the click mechanism 2-3 times until the cannula tip is sufficiently coated
with Adhese Universal. The wetting of the cannula tip is recognized by the yel-
low colour of Adhese Universal.

If used several times on the same patient, the moistened cannula must be pro-
tected from light.

Remove the protective sleeve and cannula after using the VivaPen.
Remove the cannula by turning it until noticeable resistance is felt and
simultaneously pulling it off.

Close the VivaPen with the original cap.

(b.) Bottle

Dispense the desired amount of Adhese Universal into a mixing well and apply it
using a disposable applicator (e.g. Vivadent

®

Applicator Brush). Protect the adhe-

sive from light (e.g. VivaPad

®

).

Carefully close the bottle immediately after each use.

A new disposable applicator must be used for each application.

5. Application of the adhesive

Starting with the enamel, thoroughly coat the tooth surfaces to be treated with
Adhese Universal.

The adhesive must be scrubbed into the tooth surface for at least 20 seconds.
This time must not be shortened. Applying the adhesive on the tooth surface
without scrubbing is inadequate.

Disperse Adhese Universal with oil- and moisture-free compressed air until a
glossy, immobile film layer results.

Light-cure Adhese Universal for 10 seconds using a light intensity of
≥ 500 mW/cm

2

(e.g. Bluephase

®

Style).

For the remainder of the procedure, the Instructions for Use for the restorative
and cementation materials must be observed.

6. Intraoral repair of fractured composite restorations with

light-curing materials

Roughen the restorative surface to be repaired with a diamond finishing bur,
clean with water spray, and dry with oil- and moisture-free compressed air.

The subsequent working steps are the same as the application used for direct /
indirect restorations with Adhese Universal.

Notes

When using the VivaPen for the first time, more than 2-3 clicks are
required to coat the cannula due to its design. This does not have any
influence on the specified contents or the function of the VivaPen.

Do not immerse the VivaPen in disinfecting solutions or autoclave it.

Contamination on the VivaPen or bottle can be removed, e.g. by wiping with
alcohol or other non-oxidizing disinfectants.

For hygienic reasons, VivaPen protective sleeves must always be used.

Cannulas other than those supplied with the VivaPen are not compatible with
the VivaPen and must not be used.

The fill-level indicator shows the remaining amount of material in the
VivaPen. When the white indicator disappears from the see-through
window, the VivaPen is empty.

Do not use the bottle intraorally. For hygienic reasons, a suitable application aid
should be used (e.g. VivaPad

®

).

Adhese Universal must not be combined with AdheSE DC Activator.

Do not use Adhese Universal as a primer for ceramic restorative materials. A suit-
able ceramic primer must be used (e.g. Monobond Plus).

Unprepared enamel surfaces must be conditioned with phosphoric acid (e.g.
Total Etch).

Warning

Adhese Universal is an irritant. Avoid contact with the skin, mucous membrane
and eyes.

In case of skin contact, immediately wash with soap and copious amounts of
water.

If the material should accidentally come in contact with the eyes, immediately
rinse with copious amounts of water and consult a physician / ophthalmologist.

In rare cases, contact with skin may lead to sensitization towards the
ingredients.

Commercial medical gloves do not provide protection against the sensitizing
effects of methacrylate.

Notes regarding phosphoric acid
Phosphoric acid gel is etching. Avoid contact with the skin, mucous membrane and
eyes (goggles are recommended for both the patients and practitioners). If the mate-
rial should accidentally come in contact with the eyes, immediately rinse with copi-
ous amounts of water and consult a physician / ophthalmologist.
