Adhese
® Universal is a light-curing single-component dental adhesive for enamel
and dentin, which is supplied in the VivaPen ® and bottle for repeated dispensing of
the adhesive.
The adhesive can be used with the:
–
Self-etch technique
– Selective-enamel-etch technique
– Etch & rinse technique
Composition
Adhese Universal contains methacrylates, ethanol, water, highly dispersed
silicon dioxide, initiators and stabilizers.
Indications
–
Direct-placed light-curing composite and compomer restorations.
– Direct-placed core build-ups with light-, self- and dual-curing composites.
– Repair of fractured composite and compomer restorations.
– Adhesive cementation of indirect restorations with light- and dual-curing luting
composites.
– Sealing of prepared tooth surfaces before temporary / permanent cementation
of indirect restorations.
– Desensitization of hypersensitive cervical areas.
Contraindication
–
Do not use Adhese Universal if the patient is known to be allergic to
any of the materials` ingredients or if the stipulated working technique cannot
be employed.
– Applications in which sufficient illumination cannot be ensured
(e.g. cementation of root canal posts).
– Direct pulp cappings.
Side effects
In rare cases, components of Adhese Universal may lead to sensitization.
In such cases, Adhese Universal should no longer be used.
Interactions
–
Phenolic substances may inhibit the polymerization of Adhese Universal (e.g.
eugenol, salicylic derivatives). Such materials should not be used ≤ 12 h prior to
the application of Adhese Universal.
– Iron- and aluminium-based styptic agents must not be used shortly before or
during the application of Adhese Universal.
– Bleaching agents or oxidizing disinfectants must not be used ≤ 7 days prior to
the application of Adhese Universal.
– Large-dosed fluoridation agents must not be used ≤ 7 days prior to the applica-
tion of Adhese Universal.
Procedure for direct and indirect restorations
1. Isolation
A dry operating field must be ensured. Ideally, a rubber dam should be placed (e.g.
OptraDam
® Plus).
2. Pulp protection / cavity liner
In very deep cavities, areas close to the pulp must be selectively coated with a cal-
cium hydroxide liner (e.g. ApexCal
® ); and subsequently covered with pressure-resis-
tant cement (e.g. glass ionomer cement such as Vivaglass ® Liner).
3. Conditioning with phosphoric acid gel (optional)
The bond to enamel can be improved by selectively etching the enamel or by applying
