B.2

Redundancy Kit Installation

Redundancy kits are available for 1:2 configurations and provide all required

cabling and switches. Because each kit is typically designed to a customer’s unique

specifications,

Figure B-4 and Figure B-6 are provided for the purpose of example

only. Contact Comtech EF Data Customer Support for 1:2 Redundancy Kits and

their pertinent installation diagrams and assembly instructions.

Comtech EF Data’s CPA ISSPAs are easily configured for optional redundant operation by using an

optional redundancy kit. Each kit includes all the necessary control, semi-rigid, and waveguide

cabling, and the appropriate waveguide/coax switches and terminations.

B.2.1

Redundancy Kit Component Assembly

1. The configuration of the dual Waveguide Coax Switch requires that the

uppermost ISSPA always serves as the “Backup” unit.

2. A gasket must be installed between each waveguide interface. If both

waveguide surfaces are grooved, use a thick gasket. If only one surface is

grooved, use a thin gasket.

The Primary and Backup SSPAs are typically installed adjacent to one another in a standard 19-inch

(480 mm) wide equipment rack. Figure B-1 and Figure B-2 show typical 1:1 redundant system

assemblies. Figure B-3 shows an exploded assembly detail, and its associated parts list is provided

in Table B-1.

Perform the installation as follows:

Step Task

1

Assemble the waveguide load and bend to the proper port of the switch.

2

Attach t he r igid lower w aveguide a rm, u sing t he supplied s crews. T he s witch s hould be

installed with “Port 1” facing outward.

3

The upper Waveguide (flexible arm) along with the isolator bracket should be installed next.

4

Complete the installation by attaching the coaxial cables, coaxial load, and control cables.

5

Note that the installation of the control cables determines which unit functions as the Backup

SSPA. Due to the nature of the dual WG-coax switch, this is always the upper unit. Therefore,

the end of the redundant loop cable (Item 40, Figure B-3) labeled “BU SSPA,” should be

connected to ‘J4 | REDUNDANT LOOP’ of the upper (Backup) unit.

6

The appropriate end of the control cable attaching to the Waveguide Switch (Item 50, Figure

B-3) should also be attached to the Backup Unit at the ‘J7 | RF SWITCH’ connector.
