View and manage files by folder location
The Folder Location view in the Elements
Organizer splits the Media Browser into two sections: a folder hierarchy
panel, and an image thumbnail panel. From this view, you can manage folders, add files to your catalog, and add or
remove folders from Watched Folder status.
You can create instant albums from the folder view. All the images in the selected folder are added to the instant album.
Note: Watched Folders are available only on Windows. The Watched Folder option is disabled for Network drives.
Note: To allow Elements Organizer to automatically sync your new album, ensure that Sync New Albums is checked in
Backup/Synchronization preferences.
By default, the folder hierarchy panel displays all of the folders on your hard disk. Folders containing managed files
have a Managed folder icon
. Managed files are those you have imported into a catalog, either manually or
automatically. (Windows only) Watched folders have a Watched folder icon
. Elements
Organizer automatically
imports compatible files saved in watched folders. Folders that are both managed and watched have a Watched And
Managed folder icon
.
1 In the Media Browser, select Folder Location from the
Display menu in the upper-right corner of the Organizer.
Alternatively, press Ctrl+Alt+3 (Windows), or Cmd+Option+3 (Mac OS).
The Folder hierarchy appears on the left side of the Organizer and the image thumbnails appear in the center.
2 Select Window > Timeline. The timeline helps you easily browse managed folders in the Folder view.
3 To add files from a folder to Elements Organizer, right-click/control-click the folder in the folder hierarchy, and
select Import To Organizer.
4 To find files in a specific folder, click the folder in the folder hierarchy panel. After import, thumbnails for the files
in that folder appear in the image thumbnail panel, grouped under the folder name.
5 To instantly create an album by the folder name, click the Create Instant Album
icon to the upper right of the
image thumbnail panel for each folder you want to tag.
6 To manage files and folders, select a folder and do any of the following:
•
To move a file to a different folder, drag the file’s thumbnail from the image thumbnail panel to a folder in the folder
hierarchy panel.
•
To view the folder in Explorer, right-click/control-click in the folder hierarchy panel and choose Reveal In Explorer
(Windows)/Reveal in Finder (Mac OS).
•
(Windows only) To add or remove the folder from watched-folder status, right-click in the left panel, and choose
Add To Watched Folders or Remove From Watched Folders.
•
To add files in the folder to your catalog, right-click/control-click in the folder hierarchy panel and choose Import
To Organizer.
•
To rename the folder, right-click/control-click the folder and choose Rename Folder. Then type a new name.
•
To delete the folder, right-click/control-click in the folder hierarchy panel and choose Delete Folder. Deleting a
folder using folder view also deletes it from your computer. If you deleted a folder unintentionally, undo the delete
operation or restore the folder from the recycle bin (Windows)/Trash (Mac OS).
7 To create a new folder, right-click/control-click in the folder hierarchy panel and choose New Folder.
