• An auxiliary power source with a voltage range of 10 to 20 volts and supplying a current of at least 2

amperes. A typical application under these conditions would be a lead acid battery alone or one that is
being powered by solar cells as part of a data collection platform package.


Combinations of the battery pack and power supplies can also be used. For deployments involving remote
power sources such as the 9689 power supply or auxiliary batteries, YSI recommends that you also have an
internal 9611 battery pack in place in the instrument. The presence of the battery pack will provide data
continuity in the event of power outage (for the 9689 power supply) or premature auxiliary battery failure
or discharge.

As described above in Section 3.3 on cables for the use with the 9600, it very important to purchase the
proper cable if you are going to use an auxiliary power source for your 9600 deployments. Under these
conditions, you MUST purchase the cables with a 96XX designation (9691, 9692, or 9693). While
standard 6-series cables in the 60XX series, e.g., 6090 and 6067B, can be used for interface to set up a
deployment, they CANNOT be used to transmit power from remote sources when actual operation of the
9600 pumps is required.

5.3 VIEWING AND UPLOADING DATA DURING A
DEPLOYMENT

Using a laptop PC which is running NUview software, you will be able to visit your 9600 deployment site
and both upload the data from the instrument memory or view the last 10 data points to make sure that the
instrument is functioning properly.

CAUTION: If your have to remove the 9600 from the water at the site in order to interface to the
communication port of the nitrate monitor, you should take care to do this WHEN THE UNIT IS NOT
TAKING A READING. If the inlet filter is exposed to air when a sample routine is run, air will be sucked
into the system and could compromise the accuracy of several subsequent points until all of the gas is
purged from the system. With this in mind, make sure that you do NOT remove the analyzer from the
water for at least 15 minutes after the start of each analytical sequence. For example, if you started you
study on the hour at a 1-hour sample interval, only remove the 9600 from the water during the 35-minute
period between 20 minutes after the hour and 5 minutes before the hour. The extra 5 minutes after the
completion of the sequence and before the start of the next sequence is “insurance” to take into account any
discrepancy between the 9600 internal time and external time keeping devices.

To upload or view your deployment data, simply connect your PC to the 9600 with one of the cable options
described above and run NUview. The following display will be seen.
