• Select the Sample Interval for your study – the time between samples in hours:minutes. Use the
incrementing/decrementing buttons or simply click on the box and enter a number from the PC
keyboard. Allowed intervals are 15 minutes and all other even increments of 15 minutes such as 30,
60, 75, 90 minutes. The software will NOT allow the entry of Sample Intervals that are not
increments of 15 minutes. For example, Sample Intervals of 25 minutes or 1 hour and 55 minutes
would be rejected. For your first deployment, YSI recommends a Sample Interval of 1 hour.
NOTE CAREFULLY: When using your 9600 with a data collection platform (DCP) via an SDI-12
interface, the MINIMUM SAMPLE INTERVAL ALLOWED IS 30 MINUTES. See Section 5.5
below for details on the setting up of your instrument for DCP interface.
• Choose a value for the Samples per Calibration entry – the number of actual sample readings
between calibration points. If you select a 1 hour sample interval and 12 Samples per Calibration,
then your instrument will be calibrated every 12 hours or twice a day. For your first deployment, YSI
recommends a Samples per Calibration value of 12 together with a Sample Interval of 1 hour
• Choose a time to Start Logging – the time that your deployment will actually start. Note, however,
that the first two points in every deployment sequence are a blank and a standard and to complete this
calibration routine requires slightly less than 15 minutes. The 9600 software takes this calibration into
account and will automatically run the first actual sample at the next “even” sample interval point after
the calibration. Thus, if you choose 15:00:00 as the time to “Start Deployment”, the calibration
routine will start at 15:00:00 and your first sample will be run at various points depending on what
sample interval you chose as documented below:
