Regulatons prohbt dschargng fuel or oly waste
in navigable waters. Discharge is defined as any
action which causes a film, sheen or discoloration on
the water surface, or causes a sludge or emulson
beneath the water surface. a common volaton s
blge dscharge. Use rags or sponges to soak up
fuel or oly waste, then dspose of t properly ashore.
If there s much fuel or ol n the blge, contact a
knowledgeable marne servce to remove t. never
pump contamnated blge overboard.
Fll fuel tank less than rated capacty. allow for fuel
expanson.

The bottom of the engne compartment s called
the “blge”. It s the lowest and nner part of the hull.
Water and other lquds wll collect here.
after removng your boat from the water, unthread
the dran plug to dran the blge (Fgure 4.1.1).

A bilge pump and float switch are located in the
bottom of the blge (Fgure 4.1.2). The blge pump
s manually actvated from the swtch panel located
on the helm.
Before startng the engne, press the blge pump
swtch so that the swtch lght comes On. Make
sure the pump s workng by openng the engne
compartment, lstenng to hear the pump runnng
and check to see that lqud s beng pumped out
from the hull dscharge. If the blge has more lqud
than normal, see Mantenance secton for locatng
and correctng the problem.
Run bilge pumps in the manual position only as
long as necessary to remove water. Running bilge
pumps dry can damage the pump motor.

Sinking Hazard – Ensure the bilge pumps are
operating properly.

Install and tighten drain plug before launching boat.
Boat will sink if drain plug is not in place and tight.
