Dangerous concentratons of carbon monoxde wll be
present f:
• the engne exhaust systems leak;
• a nearby vessel's engne s runnng
• insufficient fresh air is circulating where people are
present; and
• fumes move from the rear of the boat nto the cockpt
and cabn area.
Fgure 1.3.1 gves examples of boat operatng condtons
that can lead to hgh concentratons of carbon monoxde
gas.
To mnmze the danger of CO accumulaton when the
engne s runnng, or usng burnng fuel applances.
• Be sure to have sufficient ventilation when using
canvas or wndow-type sde curtans when underway,
anchored, moored or docked.
• If a convertble or camper top s nstalled, operate
wth the forward hatch open and leave cabn door
open.
• Operate all burnng fuel applances, such as charcoal,
propane, lPg, Cng or alcohol cookng devces n
areas where fresh ar can crculate. Do not use such
devces where there s no notceable ar movement,
especally n the cabn, when anchored, moored or
docked.
• Do not dle engne wthout movng boat for more than
15 mnutes at a tme.
• Inspect the exhaust system regularly. (see secton
8, Requred Inspecton, servce and Mantenance.)
If CO posonng s suspected, have the vctm breathe
fresh ar deeply. If breathng stops, resusctate. a
vctm often revves, then relapses because organs are
damaged by lack of oxygen. seek mmedate medcal
attenton.

your boat has a carbon monoxde (CO) montor mounted
n the cabn. The CO montor s an electronc nstrument
that detects CO. When there s a buld-up of CO n the
cabin, the monitor will alert the occupants by a flashing
DangER lght and alarm.
Read and under stand the CO montor nformaton and
operatng nstructons. It s extremely mportant that you
become totally famlar wth your CO montor and ts
functons.
