7.3.2.2.3 Module

A module is a set of components sharing a common hardware
interconnection, such as a backplane. A module is a subset of a
group, and it is usually contained in a system enclosure. A module
contains one or more slots. In a Himalaya S-Series server, there is
exactly one module in a group.

7.3.2.2.4 Slot

A slot is a labeled physical space in an enclosure into which a CRU
or field-replaceable unit (FRU) can be installed. Service providers
trained by Tandem replace FRUs.

7.3.2.2.5 Identifying CRUs

CRUs in Himalaya S-Series servers are identified by their
physical location. There are no subchannel addresses as there

were in previous Tandem systems. To locate any CRU, the
following must be known:

group number The group number identifies all objects

connected through the service processors
(SPs) located on the processor multifunction
(PMF) CRUs. For Himalaya S-Series
servers, this includes everything
in the system enclosure.

module number For Himalaya S-Series servers, there is only

one module in a group, so the module
number is always “1”.

slot number The slot number identifies a position within

a module. A label beneath the slot indicates
the slot number.
