Protection Views
All protection view labels are expanded when they are converted to logically named
files. However, because protection view labels contain a variable amount of projection
and selection information, they might be too large to allow expansion of the label
header. If this is the case, you must reduce the amount of projection and selection
information stored by the protection view before attempting to migrate these files again.
SQL Catalog Considerations
All SQL catalog files on the physical volume must be migrated successfully.
SMCONVRT does not allow you to migrate a physical volume if an entire SQL catalog
that resides on the volume cannot be migrated to the virtual volume.
File Listing and Prompt for Continue
After scanning all file labels on the disk, SMCONVRT lists all of the files that cannot be
converted and prompts you for instructions. At this point, no files have been affected
and you can choose to stop the migration. This feature allows you to analyze the status
for each file listed and correct any problems before running SMCONVRT again.
Virtual Disk Process Startup
After a successful migration, the new VDP needs to be configured and started by using
the COUP utility for D-series versions or the SCF utility for G-series versions. Because
SMCONVRT has already defined the VDP to SMF, users running a D-series release of
SMF need not issue a PUP DEFINEVIRTDISK command.
File Mode Backup
Once the migration has been completed and the virtual disk started, a file mode
Backup of the virtual disk is recommended. HP does not recommend the use of
volume mode backup for disks configured in SMF pool, as restoring such a backup can
cause SMF catalog inconsistencies if files have been created, deleted, or relocated
after the volume mode backup was made.
Note. In general, the reason file labels cannot be expanded is that a large number of extents
or partitions (or both) are allocated for the file. You should reduce the number of extents or
partitions before executing SMCONVRT again.
Note. SMCONVRT prompts for continuation regardless of whether or not errors are
encountered.
