Recovering an Entire Disk
Recovering an Entire Disk
After a disk failure, there are two common scenarios for recovery of an entire disk:

Recovery of the files from the failed disk to a new disk

Recovery of the files from the failed disk to another disk in the same pool
In both cases, recovery of an entire disk is similar to recovery of a file. Follow the
procedures under
Recovering Individual Files on page 7-2, using the PHYSVOL option
of TMFCOM or RECOVER. Before you attempt recovery, however, be sure that you
have enough space in the new location.
Following is a TACL macro, SMRECOV, that automates the restoration of a disk using
the RESTORE method. It finds all the files on a volume that are associated with a
particular VDP, then creates two files. One can be used as an input to SMFIXUP, to
delete the entries in the VDP catalog. The second can be used as an input to
RESTORE.
