3.2 Overview of external control devices
All parameters can be easily accessed for reading or editing by means of an optional SimpleBox or Parame-
terBox. The changed parameter data can then be stored in the non-volatile flash memory.
In addition, up to 5 complete motor starter data sets can be saved in the ParameterBox and then recalled.
The connection between a SimpleBox or ParameterBox and the SK 1x5E is made by means of two RJ12-
RJ12 cables and an RS 232 / RS 485 converter (SK TIE4-RS485-RS232 Part No. 275274603).

Installation of the control unit is performed as follows:
1. Remove the housing cover (see Section 2.4).
2. Connect the RJ12-RJ12 cable between the control unit and the
RS485 socket of the converter (SK TIE4-RS485-RS232) (see
the arrow in the adjacent illustration).
3. Connect the RJ12-RJ12 cable between the motor starter and
the RS232 socket of the converter (SK TIE4-RS485-RS232).
4. During normal operation after commissioning, it is essential to
replace the protective caps and pay attention to sealing.
5. As long as the housing cover is open, take care that no dirt or
moisture enters the device.
