Appendix B: Serial Commands
Remote Control of a Presentation
Enabling Serial Control Remote control of a presentation is achieved by sending
ES4000 R-type messages to the ‘Data RX’ input on one of
the computer’s serial (RS-232) ports.
These ports are usually identified as COM
x
, where
x
is a
number from 1 to 4 (
e.g.
COM2). You must ensure that the
appropriate serial port is configured correctly, by
following the instructions on pages 36 and 40.
Sources of Some ES4000-compatible devices such as the Electrosonic
R-type Messages ESLINX ES1553 or ES1554 Modules are capable of
generating suitable R-type messages in response to
switch closures.
R-type messages can also be generated by application
programs like C-Through for Windows or EASY+, either
from dedicated show control cues or transmittable
comment cues.
Alternatively, R-type messages can be created as simple
ASCII text strings and transmitted using suitable
software, such as a terminal emulation program.
Remember that you could use the external control
capability of a presentation (see page 124) to remotely
control another presentation running on a different
computer.
