Using a terminal session (for example, HyperTerminal) with settings 9600, 8, N, 1, verify the
adapter is set up as described in

Settings for the Adapter Connected to a PC

on

page 39

(use

Direct Connect Mode for this test). Verify the IP address and port number are set to the values
supplied by the Network Administrator (or other IT personnel). If they are not supplied, use a
temporary value of IP address 192.168.1.102 and port 1001. Verify the remote IP address and
remote port number are set to match the values of the Gasboy system adapter. Also, verify the
baud rate matches the Gasboy system. Mark this adapter PC.

12

In the terminal session, click the disconnect button (If no disconnect button is available in your
terminal session, close the session). If necessary, change the baud rate to match the Gasboy
system (it may be necessary to close and re-open HyperTerminal for this change to take
affect). Click the connect button (If no connect button is available in your terminal session, re-
start the terminal session). Verify you can sign on to the Gasboy system and run system
commands. If unable to connect, ensure the adapter and Gasboy system are powered. Check
cable connection from the Gasboy system to the adapter, adapter to adapter, and the adapter to
PC. Check the system baud rate is set correctly for the port being used. It may be necessary to
default all the adapter settings and re-load them (refer to

Accessing Adapter Parameters

on

page 32

section in this manual). If still unable to connect, try replacing the adapter. You must

be able to communicate with the Gasboy system at this level before going forward.

13

If you are using Direct Connect Mode, close the terminal session and skip to step

16

. If you are

using Modem Emulation Mode, repeat step

11

above (except follow the setting in Modem

Emulation Mode sub-section for this test). Ensure to load zeros for the remote IP address and
port number.
