Adding a Dedicated Spare
This function allows the user to add dedicated spares to a specific array. If a member drive
in the array fails, the controller will use a dedicated spare drive to automatically reconstruct
the array. The user can add dedicated spares to Mirrored (RAID 1 and RAID 10) and parity
(RAID 3, RAID 4, RAID 5, and RAID 50) arrays at anytime. Up to four (4) dedicated spare drives
can be added to an array (refer to section "Creating Arrays" for further information).
NOTES:
A spare cannot be added unless it has enough capacity to replace the
smallest member in the array.
If a drive was a member of an array and was removed from the array, it
cannot be used as a spare until all the metadata is cleared from the drive
(refer to section "Clearing Metadata from a Drive" for further information).
