Free Space

Partition 1
Figure 34: Array after Creating One Partition
The Disk Array Administrator assigns each partition a unique serial number and sequence
number. Sequence numbers are assigned in the order the partitions are created. Once one
or more partitions are created on an array, additional partitions may be created in the remaining
free space or a partition may be expanded (with some limitations).
A partition can only be expanded into contiguous, free space following the partition.
After all of the free space has been partitioned, the partition can only be expanded by deleting
a partition that follows (the next highest in sequence) the partition to be expanded. In Figure
35, partition 3 can be deleted so that partition 2 can be expanded to use some or all of partition
3's space.
CAUTION:
Deleting a partition also deletes all data stored in that partition! Be sure to
back up all data before deleting a partition!

When expanding an array, free space is added at the end of the array as shown in Figure 36
(refer to section "Expanding Array Capacity" for further information).
When a partition is created, the user must specify the size (in MB) of the partition (Figure 34).
