Note that the denoiser has been activated. It makes little sense to adjust the denoiser if you can’t hear the
effect, so the KDSP2 automatically enables the denoiser whenever an adjustment is made to it.
The .n2 which briefly appears informs you that the denoiser has been set to the fourth level. The display
then reverts back to .nr for better functional clarity. If you continue to press the
STORE button, you will
see the filters cycle through 3, 4, 1, 2…
The denoiser levels for SSB and CW may be set independently.
If you press BAND- in CW mode, you will see something like
c2 nr
The lower-case c indicates that the alternate “soft” CW filters are in use. These filters have less skirt
selectivity than the standard filters, but offer better ultimate rejection. They also have slightly less ringing,
along with some attenuation, in the narrowest settings. Pressing BAND- again will toggle the CW filters
back to the standard ones, indicated by an uppercase C.
C2 nr
The next menu after the main menu is the Filter menu. The Filter menu is the primary menu for RTTY
mode.
You can exit this menu, and all other KDSP2 menus, by turning the VFO knob, changing mode or filter,
keying the radio, tapping DISPLAY , or holding
XFIL + AGC . There are others, but these are the most
common.
To access the next menu, press
R C L . You can always get to the next menu by pressing this button.
KDSP2 Filter Display
You will see a display something like this:
S.2 .20 2.5
This shows the mode, filter, lower and upper cutoff frequencies. In this case, it is SSB filter number 2, with
a 200 Hz lower cutoff frequency and a 2.5 kHz upper cutoff. The decimal point after the S in S2 indicates
the denoiser is active. The notch is off in this example. If it were on, the decimal point after S2 would be
on, like this:
