Information on optical filters
5.1.1
Fluorescence filters
The optical filters (band-pass filter) were especially developed for fluorescence measurements. The spectral
permeability and bandwidth of the fluorescence filters guarantee maximum sensitivity.
5.1.2
Absorbance filters
Band-pass filters which are used for absorbance measurements in microplate readers have a bandwidth of
5 to 10 nm. Therefore, fluorescence filters should not be used for absorbance measurements because the
bandwidth is normally larger than 10 nm.
During the measurement of dyes with narrow peaks, an incorrect filter can lead to a bright value error or
low absorbance values.
Eppendorf offers two predefined filter slides. They are delivered preconfigured and can be
used immediately for measurements.
The filters are permanently installed on these predefined filter slides. They cannot be removed
or exchanged.
