You can perform TCz operations across distances of up to 30 km (18.6 miles) using single-mode longwave
optical fibre cables in a switch configuration. Long-distance solutions are provided, based on user
requirements and workload characteristics, using approved channel extenders and communication lines.
You can use TCz in conjunction with Siz to provide multiple copies of volumes at both
your main (primary) and remote (secondary) sites. For more information, see section

Hitachi Universal Replicator™ for z/OS
HItachi Universal Replicator for z/OS (URz) provides a RAID storage-based hardware solution for disaster
recovery which enables fast and accurate system recovery. Once URz operations are established over
dedicated fibre-channel remote copy connections, duplicate copies of data are automatically maintained
for backup and disaster recovery purposes. During normal URz operations, the primary data volumes
remain online to all hosts and continue to process both read and write I/O operations. In the event of a
disaster or system failure, the secondary copy of data can be rapidly invoked to allow recovery with a
very high level of data integrity. URz can also be used for data duplication and migration tasks.
URz represents a unique and outstanding disaster recovery solution for large amounts of data which span
multiple volumes. The URz group-based update sequence consistency solution enables fast and accurate
database recovery, even after a “rolling” disaster, without the need for time-consuming data recovery
procedures. The URz journal groups (volume groups) at the secondary site can be recovered with full
update sequence consistency, but the updates will be behind the primary site due to the asynchronous
remote copy operations. URz provides update sequence consistency for user-defined journal groups (e.g.,
large databases) as well as protection for write-dependent applications in the event of a disaster.
HP StorageWorks for Business Continuity Manager
HP StorageWorks for Business Continuity Manager (BCM) is the storage industry’s first hardware-based
solution which allows customers to make Point-in-Time (PiT) copies without slowing down the application
or causing any disruption to end-user operations. Business Continuity Manager is based on TCz
Asynchronous (TCzA), which is used to move large amounts of data over any distance with complete data
integrity and minimal impact on performance.
TCz Asynchronous can be integrated with third-party channel extender products to address the “access
anywhere” goal of data availability. TCz Asynchronous allows you to duplicate production data to
through ESCON

or communication lines from a main (primary) site to a remote (secondary) site that can
be thousands of miles away.

HP StorageWorks for Compatible Replication XRC
The HP StorageWorks for Compatible Replication XRC feature of the storage system is functionally
compatible with the industry-standard Extended Remote Copy (XRC) IBM System z host software function.
HP StorageWorks for Compatible Replication XRC is also compatible with the DFSMS data mover which
is common to the XRC environment. HP StorageWorks for Compatible Replication XRC operations
are performed in the same manner as Compatible XRC operations, by issuing Compatible XRC TSO
commands from the host system to the storage system. HP StorageWorks for Compatible Replication
XRC can also be used in conjunction with Siz to provide multiple copies of volumes at both your main
(primary) and remote (secondary) sites. The HP StorageWorks for Compatible Replication XRC feature
must be enabled using the storage system.
Contact your HP account support team for more information on the HP StorageWorks for Compatible
Replication XRC feature.
