1 Overview of HP Solutions
Hitachi ShadowImage™ for z/OS
The Hitachi ShadowImage for z/OS (Siz) features allow you to maintain storage system-internal copies
of all user data on the RAID storage systems for purposes such as data backup or duplication. The
RAID-protected duplicate volumes are created within the same storage system as the source volume at
hardware speeds. Siz is used for IBM System z
®
data. Siz can provide up to three duplicates of one
source volume. Siz is a key component of HP Data Systems’ solutions and service offerings.
Siz operations are non-disruptive and allow the source (main) volume of each volume pair to remain
online to all hosts for both read and write I/O operations. Once established, Siz operations continue
unattended to provide asynchronous internal data backup. Usability is further enhanced through a
re-synchronization capability that reduces data duplication requirements and backup time, thereby
increasing user productivity. Siz also supports reverse re-synchronization for maximum flexibility.
The licensed Remote Web Console software for the storage system allows you to perform Slz operations
on the storage system. The Remote Web Console software communicates directly with the storage system
via a LAN. For more information on the Remote Web Console software, see the HP StorageWorks XP
Remote Web Console user guide for XP12000/XP10000 Disk Arrays and SVS 200.
This user guide describes and provides instructions for performing Siz operations using the licensed Siz
software on Remote Web Console and PPRC TSO or PPRCOPY ICKDSF commands:
•
For operating systems which do not support PPRC/PPRCOPY commands, Siz operations are
performed using the storage system Remote Web Console computer. The Siz Remote Web
Console software displays detailed Siz information and allows you to perform Siz operations. The
Remote Web Console computer is attached to and communicates with the storage system through
the LAN. For more information, see the HP StorageWorks Remote Web Console error codes for
XP12000/XP10000 Disk Arrays and SVS200
•
Siz is functionally compatible with the industry-standard Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC)
host software functions. PPRC TSO, PPRCOPY ICKDSF and/or HP StorageWorks for Business
Continuity Manager commands may be used to perform Siz operations on the storage system.
See
on page 99 for further information on using TSO/ICKDSF commands with the
storage system. For more information, see HP StorageWorks XP for Business Continuity Manager
Software User’s Guide.
•
XP for FlashCopy Mirroring Software Mirroring is functionally compatible with the FlashCopy
®
host
software function. PPRC TSO commands and/or DFSMSdss commands may be used to perform
XP for FlashCopy Mirroring Software operations on the XP12000 storage system and Remote
Web Console computer. For more information, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 for
FlashCopy Mirroring Software User’s Guide.
You can perform Siz operations in conjunction with TCz operations to provide additional remote copies of
Siz volumes. Siz also supports the Virtual LVI/LUN and Cache Residency Manager for z/OS features,
ensuring that all IBM System z user data on the storage system can be duplicated by Siz operations. See sec-
tion “
Combining Hitachi ShadowImage for z/OS with Other Data Management Operations
for more information on combining Siz with these and other data management features.
Hitachi TrueCopy™ for z/OS
Hitachi TrueCopy for z/OS (TCz) includes both TCz Synchronous and TCz Asynchronous (TCzA).
The TCz (formerly called TC390) feature of the storage system allows you to create and maintain remote
copies of the data stored on the storage system for data backup and disaster recovery purposes.
TCz provides synchronous and asynchronous copy modes to accommodate a wide variety of user
requirements and data copy/movement scenarios.
