3 Startup and Navigation
Starting FCArray Assistant
This chapter primarily describes the menus and toolbars used in the FCArray
Assistant Client software, running on a client station under Windows NT 4.0, to
manage and monitor the Disk Arrays.
To use and operate the FCArray Assistant Client software successfully, a
complete installation of the FCArray Assistant Server software is required on at
least one HP NetServer in your TCP/IP network. If not, the FCArray Assistant
Client will not successfully manage any devices.
FCArray Assistant Server Software
The FCArray Assistant Server runs automatically on the server and performs the
following functions:
•
Monitors the controller(s) and disks attached to the server.
•
Executes the management instructions sent to the controller(s) and
associated disk subsystems attached to the server by the FCArray Assistant
Clients.
•
Sends information to FCArray Assistant Clients.
The automatic installation procedure for Windows NT’s FCArray Assistant Server
loads the FCArray Assistant Server software as a "service." This service will load
automatically at system startup. No special procedure is required to run the
FCArray Assistant Server.
FCArray Assistant Client Software
Once you have installed the FCArray Assistant Client on your workstation (see
the previous chapter), you are ready to start up the FCArray Assistant Client.
NOTE
Install and start the FCArray Assistant Server software on your
managed server before attempting to run the FCArray Assistant
Client software.
1. Start the FCArray Assistant Client software by selecting the FCArray
Assistant utility from the Programs list in the Start menu.
