Using infrastructure orchestration designer, an architect creates a service template containing one
or more VM Hosts with configured shared storage and networking. Deploying the template results
in a complete functioning VM cluster that is ready to have VM guests deployed.
NOTE:
In a federated CMS environment, a VM cluster can be deployed only to the primary
CMS.
For information about creating an ESXi host or cluster template, see
physical ESX VM Host or ESXi VM cluster” (page 102)
. For information about VMware vSphere
Auto Deploy, see
and
in the VMware vSphere 5 Documentation Center.
To configure the environment to deploy a VM Host or cluster, perform the following steps.
1.
Register the custom VMware vSphere Auto Deploy Server in Systems Insight Manager.
Open a command prompt and run the following command:
mxnodesecurity -a -p dsc_custom -c
Custom deployment services can be configured during installation, but doing so at that time
allows the configuration of a single dsc_custom entry. There can be any number of
dsc_custom
entries, each representing a custom deployment service or a separate vSphere
Auto Deploy service.
2.
Verify the vSphere Auto Deploy Server was added to the infrastructure orchestration console
Software tab.
3.
Install VMware vSphere PowerCLI on the CMS, if it was not previously installed. PowerCLI is
a Windows PowerShell snapin. Download PowerCLI from
.
4.
If you create or process a software depot with signed content, or receive signature validation
errors processing the software depot, obtain the trusted certificates that validate the signature(s)
and place them in ..\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\vSphere
PowerCLI
.
5.
Configure networks to use the registered vSphere Auto Deploy Server.
In the infrastructure orchestration console Networks tab, configure the network that has the
connection to vSphere Auto Deploy Server. Select the custom value in the Deployment Server
list.
If the Auto Deploy Server does not appear in the Deployment Server list, restart the infrastructure
orchestration Windows service.
