Other Important OIT Settings

TurnAround Delay

Default:

0 msec

Range:

0 to 65535 msec

TurnAround delay is the amount of time that the OIT waits before responding after it has re-

ceived a command from the ASCII host. This allows a ‘slow’ ASCII host time to prepare for

the response from the OIT. Normally, no delay is necessary but if a delay is required, this set-

ting can be changed.

Note: Take this delay into consideration when configuring the ASCII host for a timeout delay

when waiting for a response from the OIT.

Intercharacter Delay

Default:

10 msec

Range:

0 to 65535 msec

Intercharacter delay is the amount of time that the OIT waits between characters of a com-

mand sent by the ASCII host. If the intercharacter delay is exceeded, the OIT ‘times out’ and

responds with an error to the ASCII host. This prevents a situation where the ASCII host

sends a command, but due to a poor connection, the OIT does not fully receive the command

and therefore waits forever for the rest of the command.

Note: Take this delay into consideration when configuring the ASCII host for a timeout delay

when waiting for a response from the OIT.

Line Terminator

Default:

CR (0x0D)

Also Available: CR (0x0D), LF(0x0A), CR/LF (0x0D,0x0A), and ETX (0x03)

The line terminator is used in network mode to indicate that the ASCII host has finished com-

municating to a particular OIT. The line terminator, therefore, notifies the other terminals

that the next two bytes received from the ASCII host determine which OIT the ASCII host

intends to talk to next. The line terminator is also sent by the OIT whenever it responds to a

control command sent by the ASCII host.

Operating Mode

Default:

I

Also Available: Interactive or Network

This setting determines whether the OIT operates in Interactive or Network Mode. The de-

fault setting is Interactive mode.
