Timer Event

The OIT can be configured to set a coil in the OIT coil registers at a particular time during a particu-

lar day of the week or daily (example: set OIT coil register C100 every Monday at 10:30 a.m.). In

addition to setting an OIT coil register, the OIT can be configured to display a screen at that time

(example: display Screen #2 every Monday at 10:30 a.m.). This is known as a timer event. Up to 16

timereventscanbeprogrammedfortheOIT.TimereventsarecheckedbytheOITeveryminute.

Note: Timer events are only supported by the OIT3250 and OIT4450.

Screen Saver

Although originally designed with VFD displays in mind, the screen saver is an option avail-

able in all versions of the OIT Family. A single line of up to 128 characters can be configured

which will be displayed after a preprogrammed length of time has passed in which there has

been no keyboard activity or new screen requested by the ASCII host. The single line will

scroll across the top line of the display at a rate of two characters per second. The screen saver

will continue to be displayed until a keypress is made or a screen is requested by the ASCII

host. The purpose of the screen saver was to provide a means to prevent possible phosphor burn

on vacuum fluorescent displays due to the same screen being displayed for an extended period.

However, this feature can be used on all versions of the OIT Family.

Note: Any key pressed on the OIT functions in the same manner, regardless of whether the

screen saver is active.

Printer Support

Some of the OITs support connection to a serial printer using the second serial port that is also

used for OIT configuration. The printer must support XON/XOFF software handshaking. The

OIT can communicate to the printer using selectable communications parameters for baud rate,

parity, stop bits, and data length. The OIT sends a copy of the currently displayed screen to the

printer, either by configuring the screen to be sent to the display and printer, or by pressing the

Print Screen key on the OIT’s keypad. Either way, the screen is always displayed on the OIT.

The OIT can be configured to print to the printer in 40- or 80-column format. The OIT can be

configured to include a header stamp for each screen printed or to print the header once per page.

The header can be a string of up to 40 characters. The header can also be configured to print the

current time and/or date whenever the header is printed. The time can be in 12 or 24-hour format

and the date can be in US or Euro format. When printing, the header (if enabled) will print on one

line, the time/date (if enabled) will print on the second line, then the screen will be printed.

The OIT has an operational LED which will light whenever the OIT is printing to the printer.

The Printer LED will blink if the printer cannot print for any reason (such as being off line, out

of paper, etc.). If the printer does cause the Printer LED to blink, the LED will stop blinking

once another print command is sent to the printer by the OIT which is successfully carried out.
