Additional Rules for Alarms:
1. Once an alarm is displayed, pressing the Alarm Ack key acknowledges the alarm causing
the OIT to display the prior screen. Therefore, the alarm buzzer continues to sound until the
alarm is acknowledged by pressing the Alarm Ack key. However, the OIT operator can turn
off the alarm buzzer then continue to view the alarm screen by pressing the Clear key.
2. Any alarm that is currently shown on the OIT display can be canceled by the ASCII
host. If the ASCII host sets the Clear Alarm status bit or Clear Alarm Stack status bit,
the OIT will remove the alarm from the display as if the OIT operator had pressed the
Alarm Ack key. For more information on the Clear Alarm status bit as well as other
alarm status bits, refer to the “Status Bit Coils” section.
3. A status bit coil called the Acknowledge Alarm status bit is set by the OIT whenever
the Alarm Ack key is pressed to clear an alarm. This coil can be monitored by the
ASCII host to determine when normal operation can begin again. If the “Notify Host
of Read/Write Register Monitor Updates” feature is enabled, the OIT will notify the
host each time the Acknowledge Alarm status bit is set. It is the responsibility of the
ASCII host to clear this coil after it has been set by the OIT. For more information,
refer to the “Status Bit Coils” section.
Menu Screens
Menus are specifically designed to allow the OIT operator to branch off to one of many mes-
sage, recipe, or menu screens. This provides the OIT programmer with much greater flexibil-
ity in determining the design of the OIT screens.
Menu screens have the following properties which differ from other types of screens:
1. Each menu can branch to as many as nine other screens. During the OIT
programming stage, each numeric key, (1-9) on the OIT is associated with a screen.
2. Each menu is text only in order to simplify operation.
