Function keys, Initialization mode – Maple Systems OIT Family (ASCII) User Manual
Page 47

Function Keys
Each OIT has 6, 12, or 16 global function keys which can be programmed to display mes-
sages, send ASCII strings to the ASCII host, and turn on/off Function Key coils (OIT coil
registers). In addition, the OIT5400B has 5 screen dependent function keys. Each screen de-
pendent function key can be programmed to perform a different function in each of the
OIT5400B’s 250 pre-programmed screens. When the OIT is programmed, each function
key is assigned to a particular Function Key coil. This Function Key coil is controlled by the
function key if the function key is configured as Momentary, Push On/Push Off, or Latch. If
the function key is disabled or configured as Screen Display, then the Function Key coil as-
signed to the function key can be used for other purposes.
Initialization Mode
When the OIT is powered, the function keys are initialized in one of two modes:
Default Mode
In Default Mode each OIT coil register is set/reset according to the configuration of each
function key:
•
If the function key is configured as Screen Display or Disabled, no change is made to the
OIT coil register.
•
If the function key is configured as Momentary or Latch, then the OIT coil register is
cleared to 0.
•
If the function key is configured as Push On/Push Off normally open key (On/Off or
Blink/Off), then the OIT coil register is set to 1.
•
If the function key is configured as Push On/Push Off normally closed key (Off/On or
Off/Blink), then the OIT coil register is set to 0.
