Network Address Translation (NAT) Default Settings
NAT default settings let you specify whether you want your Motorola Netopia® Gateway to for ward NAT
traffic to a default ser ver when it doesn’t know what else to do with it. The NAT default host function is
useful in situations where you cannot create a specific NAT pinhole for a traffic stream because you
cannot anticipate what por t number an application might use. For example, some network games
select arbitrar y por t numbers when a connection is being opened. By identifying your computer (or
another host on your network) as a NAT default ser ver, you can specify that NAT traffic that would other-
wise be discarded by the Motorola Netopia® Gateway should be directed to a specific hosts.
set nat-default mode [ off | default-server | ip-passthrough ]
Specifies whether you want your Motorola Netopia® Gateway to for ward unsolicited traffic from the
WAN to a default ser ver or an IP passthrough host when it doesn’t know what else to do with it.
set nat-default dhcp-enable [ on | off ]
Allows the IP passthrough host to acquire its IP address via DHCP, if
ip-passthrough is enabled.
set nat-default address
ip_address
Specifies the IP address of the NAT default ser ver.
set nat-default host-hardware-address
MAC_address
}
Specifies the hardware (MAC) address of the IP passthrough host. If the MAC address is specified as
all-zeroes, the first DHCP client that requests an IP address gets the passthrough address.
