USING AUDIO FEATURES
Using SILENT CINEm
SILENT CINEMA allows you to enjoy multi-channel
music or movie sound, including Dolby Digital and DTS
sources, through ordinary headphones. SIEENT CINEMA
activates automatically whenever you connect headphones
to the PHONES jaek while listening to CINEMA DSP or
HiEi DSP sound field programs (see page 64). When
activated, the SILENT CINEMA indicator lights up in the
front panel display.
Notes
• SILENT CINEMA does not activate when the component
connected to the MULTI CH INPUT jacks is selectetl as the
input source (see page 37).
• SILENT CINEMA is not effective when the "DIRECT
STEREO" (see page 38) or 'Teh Stereo" mode (see page 38) is
selected, or when this unit is in the “STRAIGHT" mode (see
page 38).
Muting the audio output
Press WIUTE on the remote control to mute the
audio output. Press MUTE again to resume the
audio output.
Selecting the night listening mode
The night listening modes are designed to improve
listenability at lower volumes or at night. Choose either
“NIGHTtCINEMA” or ‘'NIGHTtMUSIC" depending on
the type of material you are playing.

Set the component selector switch to AMP
and then press NIGHT on the remote control
repeatedly to select “NIGHTtCINEMA” or
“NIGHTtMUSIC”.

Choices: NIGHT:CINEMA, NIGHTiMUSIC, OFF
• Select "NlGHTiCINEMA" when watching films to
reduce the dynamic range of film soundtracks and
make dialog easier to hear at lower volumes.
• Select "NIGHT:MUSIC” when listening to music
sources to preserve ease-of-listening for all sounds.
• Select "OFF” if you do not want to use this feature.
• You can also rotate VOLUME on the front panel or VOLUME
+/- on the remote control to resume the audio output.
• You can adjust the muting level by using the “MUTING TYPE”
parameter in “SOUND MENU” (see page 82),
• The MUTE indicator Hashes in the front panel display wdien the
tiLidio output is muted and disappears from the front panel
display »'hen the audio output is resumed.
Note
If you change the input soui'ce or the sound held program while
the audio output is being muled, this unit resumes the audio
oulpiit-
Wheri a night listejiing mode is selected, the NIGHT
indicator lights up in the front panel display.
Press < / > on the remote control to adjust the
effect level while “NIGHTtCINEMA” or
“NIGHTtMUSIC” is displayed in the front
panel display.
Choices: MIN,
MID,
MAX
• Select "MIN” for minimum compression.
• Select "MID” for standard compression.
• Select "MAX” for maximum compression.
